Silk Smitha, popular South Indian actress in the late 1970s and 1980s, who was often referred as a “soft-porn actress” despite her attempts to be taken seriously. She appeared in over 450 films in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. She also produced films. She committed suicide in 1996 at 35 years old.
She’s the subject of the current Bollywood hit, The Dirty Picture, starring Vidya Balan as Silk Smitha.
